Pattern
Suspend, Proliferate, Distil, Devote
The four-movement sequence that recurs through Open World practice: innocence, wilderness, presence and reverence.
Context
Across workshops, Labs and performance, the same shape keeps appearing in how a group moves from habit to something sincere. This entry records the sequence as it is taught.
The sequence
- Beginning in Innocence (suspend): meet what is present before deciding what it means.
- Building through Wilderness (proliferate): follow what emerges, and allow disorder, play and contradiction.
- Distilling through Presence (distil): notice what has become sincere, and let unnecessary performance fall away.
- Led by the Point of Reverence (devote): when many possibilities are open, let the next choice be guided by what you most deeply respect.
Evidence and limitations
- This is a description of a practice, written by its founder. It is phenomenological: an account of how the work is experienced and led.
- It has not been tested against other facilitators' practice or compared across settings.
