Getting started
What is the Open World Institute?
The public home for Open World's work: four departments (Social, Immersive, Executive and Research) that share one practice for helping people perceive more possibilities and act on them.
Where should I start?
If you want to try the work yourself, start with Flight Club. If you are enquiring for an organisation, go to Executive. For a performance or commission, go to Immersive. For collaboration on research, go to Research.
How does the Institute relate to Open World Theatre?
Open World Theatre is the founding practice, begun in 2014. The Institute is one way the Theatre serves the world, and the Theatre's site remains the training hub.
Events and participation
How do I find out what is on?
Confirmed events are listed on What's On. If nothing is listed, you can register interest and you will hear when dates are set.
Do I have to do everything I am invited to do?
No. Every quest, role, exercise or invitation can be accepted, adapted or refused. A sincere no is a way of taking part.
Will I be photographed or recorded?
Attending never implies permission to publish your image or to use anything you say or do as research material. Recording, research and publication are each asked about separately.
I have access needs. Who do I talk to?
Message or email Atlas directly using the options on this page and we will answer for the specific venue and format.
Training
What are the Orbits?
The Orbits are Open World's full training curriculum: Becoming, Beholding, Bemusing, the Quest trajectory and Belonging.
Can I train as a facilitator?
Not yet. A facilitator pathway will be designed once enough experienced practitioners are ready for it. No certification is currently offered.
Is there coaching?
Yes. One-to-one coaching and guided quests are part of Social.
Working with Open World
How do we engage Executive?
Send a short enquiry describing the change you are facing. We talk, then propose an engagement with its format, scope, timing and cost.
Can we commission a performance or experience?
Yes. Spontaneum, Artcade and bespoke immersive experiences can be commissioned by festivals, venues, cultural organisations, brands and private clients.
How do I book Atlas to speak?
Use the speaking enquiry on Atlas's page.
Can we collaborate on research?
Yes. Research is looking for academic and practice-led collaborators, and can run commissioned Labs.
Accounts and access
Where do I log in?
The Login link at the top of every page goes to the existing Open World member area. The Institute site has no separate account.
Do I need an account to send an enquiry?
No. The contact form, WhatsApp and email all work without an account.
What do you do with my details?
Enquiry details are used to reply to you and are kept private. Newsletter subscription is a separate choice made on Substack.
Message Atlas
Talk to a person.
Both options open your own messaging or email app. For a structured enquiry about a programme or commission, the contact form is better.
